Twin Lakes Golf Course helps to ‘Drive’ Out Hunger in East Texas

Twin Lakes Golf Course held their third annual ‘Drive’ Out Hunger Food Drive Golf Tournament benefitting Manna recently.

The third annual ‘Drive’ Out Hunger Food Drive Golf Tournament had a cold start, but those that sponsored and participated had warm hearts. All proceeds went to Manna, a non-profit volunteer food bank serving those in Van Zandt County. Nonperishables were part of the entry fee for the event and the boxes at the pro shop were filled to overflowing along with foods collected at Ol’ West Bean and Burger and Mill Creek Ranch & RV. Following the tournament those foods along with a check for $4,000 were presented to Manna’s director, Kathy Silver. Manna just broke ground for their new building in February and she stated that these funds would help provide more floor space to serve more of the residents in need.

Taking home first place in the first flight was repeat champion, Jared Niles and Stetson McMillan shooting a 59. Second place in the first flight was Terry Niles and Scott Boyd with a 64. Third place in the first flight was John Casper and Kirk Kohler at 68.

First place in the second flight was Miles Brown and Brian Doran shooting 69. Second place in the second flight was Lane Hoskins and Mark Taylor with a 70. Third place in the second flight were repeat winners, Jody Wesson and Nick Wesson at 71.

The third flight came down to tie breakers as all shot 75. First place went to Chad Kelly and Mike Pope. Second place was awarded to Brian Rose and Bruce Fish, and third place went to Dustin Hahn and Sheldon Hahn.

Sponsors made this event possible and they were represented all around the course from hole flags, hole signs and GPS ads. Deen Implement, a corporate sponsor, was well represented as their equipment could be seen being used around the course on Twin Lakes Nursery. Ten Kubota tractors, two Kubota RTV 500s, and a Kubota skid steer are used daily and could be seen working at the farm while one large Kubota tractor was parked by Hole #10 for golfers to see up close. Merit Roofing, a corporate sponsor, had their tent on the #18 tee box and representatives withstood the cold to meet and greet golfers. Bobcat of Longview donated a Toolcat Utility Vehicle for the event to be used by our marshal, who gladly accepted the amazing climate controlled toy that caught the eye of many. Golf Carts of Louisiana sponsored a hole in one Club Car Cart on #7 that any golfer would love to have taken home with them, but unfortunately, none did on this day.

This was a great event for a great cause and we want to thank all that helped make it possible.
