Kenneth Gowin 1935-2016
Funeral services for Robert Kenneth Gowin, 80, of Emory, were held Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Roundflat Pentecostal Church in Fruitvale with Bro. Homer Morgan officiating. Interment followed at Smyrna Cemetery near Emory under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
Mr. Gowin died Wednesday night, Feb. 24, 2016, in Grand Saline.
He was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Emory, the son of Ocie Lee Gowin and Tennessee Hall Gowin. He lived in Emory until he was six years old and then his family moved to Dallas. On Aug. 3, 1956, he married Willie Ruth Abney in Mesquite and in 1961, they moved to Emory to make their home. He attended Henderson Junior College and East Texas State University. He was employed as a field supervisor for the Sabine River Authority in Point, retiring in September 2002 after thirty-five years of service. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and taking care of his cattle and horses. He was a member of Roundflat Pentecostal Church near Fruitvale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ocie Lee and Tennessee Gowin; grandson, Kyle Gowin; in-laws, Willie Abney and wife, Myrtle “Ophie” Northcutt Abney and a brother-in-law, Sammy Abney.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Gowin, of Emory; son, Sammy Gowin, of Emory; brother, Leonard Gowin and wife, Auxiliadora, of Dallas; two sisters, Darlene McCracken, of Tomball and Carlene Pitgliara and husband, Pug, of Duncanville; three grandchildren, Brandon Gowin, Kayla Gowin and Destiny Gowin; one great-granddaughter, Payton Gowin and his dog, Miss Ebby.
Pallbearers were Charles Dickerson, John Troy Clark, Mark Johnson, Richard McEnturff, Leon Ely, Cleon Jackson, Ben Rabe and Jerry Valentine.
Honorary pallbearers were Sabine River Authority Employees.
