Genealogical Society Holds Meeting
Van Zandt County Genealogical Society Program Chairman Ellen Wheeler and guest speaker John Nance at the February society meeting.
The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society held its monthly meeting Feb. 27 in the Buchanan Room of the County Library.
Guest speaker was John Nance who talked about the role of Jefferson during the Civil War. It was a very interesting and informative program explaining the importance of protecting and operating the navigational port on the Big Cypress Bayou at Jefferson, society officials said.
Nance also gives historical tours on the Big Cypress Bayou riverboat in Jefferson.
The Genealogical Society announced a change in the meeting place for the month of March only. It will be held at 2 p.m. March 26 at the Senior Citizens Center, 200 W. Groves St. in Canton.
Guest speaker for the March meeting will be Lou Ann Everett presenting “The Runaway Scrape: A Living Portrayal of Dilue Rose Harris.”
