Stanley Reed 1929-2016
Funeral services for Stanley Max “Stan” Reed, 86, of Wills Point, were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point with the Rev. David Cartwright officiating.
Interment followed with full military honors at Union Grove Cemetery north of Wills Point under direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
Mr. Reed died Friday night, Feb. 19, 2016 in Tyler.
He was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Wills Point, the son of Claude Lemmon Reed and Cecil Blanche Lester Reed. He attended the Wills Point schools, graduating in 1947. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M College, Class of 1951.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Sinclair on Feb. 13, 1955, in Mineola and they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. After 20 years in the United States Air Force, he retired in 1972 after attaining the rank of Lt. Col. He enjoyed a second career with the USDA working in Texas, Louisiana and Washington, D.C. and was also a real estate appraiser.
He enjoyed attending his grandkids activities, gardening (he could grow anything), traveling to most of the national parks and later in life he took up golf. He had been a member of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church since 1949.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude L. Reed and Cecil Reed; sister, Dorothy Reed Rockenbaugh; and a brother, Lester Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Sinclair Reed of Wills Point; two sons, Mark Cecil Reed of Sebastian, Fla. and Max Reed and wife, Denice of Wills Point; daughter, Cindy Reed Grimsinger and husband, Mike of Victoria; sister, Jean Miracle of Wills Point; eight grandchildren, Josh Heller and wife, Dionne, Meghan Morgan and husband Karl, Brittany Cantu and husband Louis, Alexandra Massey and husband Harrison, Katrina Reed, Ciera Bozzo and husband Paul, Chassie Bell and husband, Steve and Tristin Arnold and husband, Chris; eight great-grandchildren, Alayna, Reed, Halli, Benson, Ellis, Harper, Denom and Jadyn; three nephews, Bruce Miracle and wife Debbie, Rocky Miracle and wife, Sarah and Rusty Miracle and wife, Carol; and two nieces, Candy Hays and Debbie Campbell.
Pallbearers were F.G. Hardy, Josh Heller, Louis Cantu, Kevin McMillian, Bobby Smith and John Stanbrough.
Honorary pallbearers were Leon Lester, Ted Deen, Mike Watson, Bud Catron, Jim Bob Paschall and Capt. James Smith (Ret.).
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Russell Memorial United Methodist Church Benevolent Fund.
