Tigers host Wills Point Invitational

Powerlifters from Van and Wills Point, as well as a host of other East Texas schools, competed at the Wills Point Invitational Powerlifting Meet Feb. 6. Lifters participated in three separate disciplines, squat, bench press and deadlift, to find the top overall lifter in each weight class.

Lifters representing 14 schools from across the East Texas area, including Van and Wills Point, competed at the Wills Point Invitational Powerlifting Meet Feb. 5.

Both county schools came with away with successes, as the Vandals finished seventh overall in the boys division and the Tigers finished eighth overall in the boys division.

Individual boys results included:

-114 lb. weight class: Austin Caldwell, Wills Point, third place, 560 lbs. lifted; Kyron Cobb, Wills Point, fourth place, 330 lbs. lifted

-123 lb. weight class: Rigo Herrera, Van, second place, 600 lbs. lifted; Luis Ortiz, Wills Point, third place, 495 lbs. lifted

-132 lb. weight class: Kaden McKinney, Van, fifth place, 650 lbs. lifted; Bradley Shushan, Wills Point, bombed out; David Umana, Wills Point, bombed out

-148 lb. weight class: Trevor Harrell, Wills Point, sixth place, 820 lbs. lifted

-165 lb. weight class: Jax Tobias, Van, fifth place, 1,050 lbs. lifted

-181 lb. weight class: Joshua Hull, Wills Point, seventh place, 1,035 lbs. lifted

-198 lb. weight class: Jacob Resnick, Wills Point, 11th place, 865 lbs. lifted

-220 lb. weight class: Christian Lemus, Van, third place, 1,160 lbs. lifted

-242 lb. weight class: Caleb York, Van, first place, 1,185 lbs. lifted

-275 lb. weight class: Jarred Norman, Wills Point, fourth place, 1,155 lbs. lifted

-SHW: Jonathan Amaro, Wills Point, third place, 1,275 lbs. lifted; Brayden Jones, Wills Point, eighth place, 1,040 lbs. lifted; Jordan Young, Van, bombed out

Eleven total teams competed in the girls division, with Wills Point placing 10th as a team and Van finishing 11th as a team.
