James Whitaker 1934-2016

Memorial services for James Roland “Jim” Whitaker, 81, of Wills Point, were held Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Chaplain Richard Moore officiating. 

Mr. Whitaker died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 10, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Jamesport Mo., the son of Henry Russell Whitaker and Sarah Ruth Curtis Whitaker. 

He was raised in Jamesport, where he attended public school.  He was a veteran of the United States Army for 20 years, retiring March 31, 1977.

 On Oct. 10, 1954, he married Beverly Jean Holbrook in Gallatin, Mo.  He also was self-employed in the trucking business from 1978 – 1997.  He lived in Denver prior to moving to Wills Point in 1998.  On Sept. 30, 2005, he married Linda Ann Nunn in Canton.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and restoring boats.  He was a Master Mason at Jamesport and was of the Methodist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Russell and Sarah Ruth Whitaker; first wife, Beverly Whitaker Sept. 8, 2002, and two brothers, Robert Curtis Whitaker and Thomas Richard Franklin Whitaker.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Whitaker, of Wills Point; three sons, Jerry Whitaker and wife, Jane, of Wills Point,  Nelson Whitaker and wife, Annie, of Wills Point and Mike Whitaker and wife, Melissa, of Wills Point; stepson, Gary Nunn Jr., of Frisco; daughter, Jamie Brown and husband, Craig of McKinney; stepdaughter, Melanie Rotenberry and husband, Greg of Wills Point; two brothers, John Whitaker and wife, Joyce of Layton, Utah and  Henry Russell “Hank” Whitaker and wife, Merlene of West Valley, Utah; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
