H.L. Gaddis, police chief of Wills Point the past two years turned in his resignation to the city office Saturday morning effective at that time.  Mr. and Mrs. Gaddis moved Saturday to Rockwall where he has accepted a position on the police force there. According to Joe Gabbert, city recorder, several applications for the job have been received. He said members of the city council, will probably meet early in February to discuss plans.

The City of Wills Point this week posted the reward of $100 for the apprehension and conviction of the party or parties who cut of the rubber stop signs in the center of the streets at the intersection of James and Fourth Streets. The stop signs were erected several months ago, in the center of the street for the protection of the citizens, stated Joe Gabbert, spokesman for the city council.

Concrete construction on Iron Bridge dam, north of Wills Point, is complete and final work on the dam will be finished in time for Lake Tawakoni to start filling this summer. The $40,000.000 project is in Van Zandt, Hunt and Rains Counties. The lake will fill by the summer of 1962. (See newspaper for picture of the completed spillway.)

The Tigers edged past Forney Thursday night 54-51 to break their losing streak for the past several weeks. High point man in the game was Shinn with 28 points, Canefax made 11 points, Lybrand 8, Turner 5, and Conn 2.

Nineteen boys were awarded football jackets this week for earning their letter in the sport during the last season along with two managers and Coach Jerry Fausett. Head Coach Bruce Bradshaw awarded the jackets in assembly Wednesday morning. This year’s royal blue jackets, trimmed in white leather and knit, have the large white W showing the year and number of letters earned by the individual. Seniors receiving jackets and number of years to letter are Kenny McSpadden, Jimmy Burch and Don Sanders, three years, co-captains, Rex Rankin, Bud Welch and Ronald Gilbert, two years. Juniors were Ronnie Turner, Don Travis, Joe McLeod , Karl Lybrand, Randell Berry, two years; David Nelson, Richard Gilbert, Butch Shepard, Robert Estes, Floyd Carnes, Jerry Beck, and Clifton Williams, one year. Bobby King, one year, was the only sophomore to letter. Managers Bob Golladay and David Johnson received jackets.

Members of the local Band Combo plan to play at the annual chamber of commerce banquet Thursday night Jan. 28. The Combo, a group of students interested in music consists of Carolyn Lang, saxophone; Larry Turner, trumpet; Teena Wilson, drums; Miss Jearleen Loving, tenor saxophone; and Martha Nell Provence, piano.

Wilbur’s Honey Bee,” a one-act comedy, will be presented by, the Senior Class Wednesday, Feb. 27 in the auditorium for junior high and high school students. Taking part in this play are Rex Rankin, Jimmy Burch, Don Sanders, Sue Jordan, Dorothy Bronson, Nina Vaughn, and Nancy Shepard. The play is under the supervision of Mrs. Lowell Hoffman and Mr. Glenn C. Adams, senior class sponsors.

Cradle Roll: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hooks announce the arrival of a daughter, Beverly Nell, Jan. 14 at a Terrell hospital. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hooks of Edgewood and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Miller. Mike and Denise Miles announce the arrival of a baby sister, Cindy Ann, Jan. 23 in a Terrell hospital. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miles. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Miles and Mrs. Gordon Tarver.

News of Our Men, Women in Service: Marine Acting Cpl. Raymond C. Miller, son of William G. Miller, of Route 3, Wills Point, is serving at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Santa Ana, Calif.

Personals: Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Wood of New Albany, Miss., spent Wednesday night with Mr. and Mrs. Sam E. Spears and family. Capt. and Mrs. Errol D. Clark and family are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Clark, en route to a new assignment. He has been stationed in Omaha, Nebraska. The Clarks will sail Feb. 25 for Germany from New York. Mr. and Mrs. Joe White of Baton Rouge, La. spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. R.D. Russell and Mr. and Mrs. K.K. Norton.
