WPPD cracking down on unlicensed solicitors

The Wills Point Police Department is taking no chances regarding the influx of unlicensed door-to-door solicitors that periodically make their way through the local community, issuing a third warning is as many months about the need to exercise caution and verify that the person or people that are soliciting have a city issued permit to do so in their possession.
In a previous press release, the WPPD noted, “The city of Wills Point requires these salespersons to get a permit to be allowed to go door-to-door within the city limits. However, the Police Department is finding that few ever apply for and get the required permit. If you are approached by a door-to-door salesperson in the residential areas, ask to see their Wills Point City issued permit (they are required to carry it with them at all times).”
The WPPD issued another reminder and warning late last week, stating “The WPPD received calls about door to door solicitors again today (Jan. 14). Two males were arrested and there were possibly several others working with them that were not located. Once again, one or more of the individuals associated with the door to door sales group had a criminal history…This is why we strongly encourage citizens to call 911 if you have a door to door solicitor come to your home without a city of Wills Point permit. The city ordinance requiring door to door solicitors to obtain a permit is in place to protect you, your family and property.”
If a door-to-door solicitor does not have the proper permits or if you have questions about the salesperson, the WPPD urges you to call the WPPD at 903-873-2588 or 911.
Additionally, the WPPD asks that residents to “get a description of the individual including any others that they are traveling with or vehicles that they are using and never allow door-to-door salespeople in your house!”
