Arrests continue in ongoing arson, burglary investigation
Van Zandt County law enforcement officials marked another name off their list of wanted criminals this week, announcing the capture of Roger Conroy Dec. 14.
Conroy was arrested in an ongoing arson and burglary investigation from incidents that took place in the Rolling Oaks subdivision near the Van Zandt and Hunt County lines.
On Nov. 24, the office of Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Chuck Allen announced the capture of 42-year old Michael Lee Burgess had been arrested Nov. 24 for a series of charges that included child endangerment, engaging in organized crime and illegal outdoor burning, adding that law enforcement officials were searching for a second person, identified as Roger Conroy, on charges of arson, burglary of habitation, engaging in organized crime and child endangerment.
At that time, Allen noted, “Conroy is known to live in and around the Rolling Oaks subdivision.”
Less than a week later, Allen added the names of Stephanie Diann Taylor and Clark Anthony Hooser Jr. to Conroy's name as suspects still being sought as part of the investigation.
Taylor was apprehended through a joint effort of the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and Wills Point Police Department Dec. 1 on warrants including burglary of a habitation, organized crime, and two counts of arson, while Hooser's outstanding warrants included burglary of a habitation and organized crime, with bonds totaling $85,000.
The latest news on the investigation came down earlier this week, with Allen announcing that the joint efforts of the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal’s office, Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, Wills Point Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Office had resulted in the capture of Roger Conroy Dec. 14 at a residence in Rolling Oaks.
“Hunt County Precinct 1 Terry Jones led officers to a residence in Rolling Oaks, where Conroy was known to be hiding out since his warrants were issued and made public. Upon making contact with the residents, officers were informed that Conroy was not there. Conroy was found attempting to hide from law enforcement officers. Conroy was taken into custody for the felony warrants of arson, burglary, child endangerment, and engaging in organized crime. Conroy was also charged on view for evading arrest, a felony,” said Allen. “A female in the residence identified as Pamela Hess was arrested for hindering apprehension of Conroy and attempting to persuade officers that Conroy was not there. Both subjects were transported to the Van Zandt County Justice Center in Canton.”
Conroy’s bonds total $115,000. As of press time, Burgess, Conroy and Taylor were all listed as still being current inmates at the Van Zandt County Jail. Pamela Hess was shown as having been released Dec. 15 after posting a $10,000 bond on a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon.
Authorities are still searching for Clark Anthony Hooser Jr. in connection to their investigation. Anyone with information on his potential whereabouts is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 903-567-STOP.
