Christmas comes early for event attendees
Jimmy Sheppard, posing with Wills Point Mayor Mark Turner, left this year’s Christmas on the Bricks $5,000 richer Dec. 12, after winning the second annual Brick$ Buck$ drawing designed to promote shopping local.
The Christmas spirit was alive and well on the streets of Wills Point Dec. 12 with hundreds of locals and visitors flocking to the historic brick streets despite the lingering threat of potentially stormy skies.
“The spirit of a small town never ceases to amaze us! The weather forecast was disheartening, but working with Wills Point Police Chief Rob Powell and the National Weather Service we were able to make the decision to forge ahead to be sure our community could celebrate the season with our annual tradition of Christmas on the Bricks and Annual Christmas Parade,” said Wills Point Chamber of Commerce President Jennifer Ross following the event.
Events and available attractions at the events ran the gamut, including a 5k Reindeer Run, Breakfast with Santa, vendors, live entertainment and Christmas in the Movies-themed parade led by Grand Marshal Liz Ellis.
Only one featured event, the annual car show, was postponed to an as yet to be determined date.
“We can't thank enough the vendors, parade participants, entertainers, 5k runners, city of Wills Point and most of all the tireless volunteers that came out and made each venue a success! Special thanks to event sponsor Citizen's National Bank and 5k title sponsor TVEC for their constant support of our community,” said Ross. “The car show, front runner sponsor Texas Fire Alarm, was the only casualty of the weather forecast but the event is being rescheduled with the new date and venue to be announced.”
Rain shortly before 3 p.m. did little to dampen enthusiasm for the final big event of the afternoon, the second annual $5,000 Brick$ Buck$ giveaway.
Ross noted, “Last but not least, the Brick$ Buck$ $5,000 Giveaway was wet and wild! Shopping locally is so important to the vitality of our small town and we have made it our mission to educate our community and provide activities to support this effort. The sponsors and participating businesses have a huge heart for keeping Wills Point thriving not only through providing quality products and services, but also through funding and providing Buck$ to make it happen.
“We hope that all who were touched by this campaign will continue to support those businesses and all of the local mom and pop's who make our town hustle and bustle with activity. The Chamber of Commerce was blessed to announce Jimmy Sheppard of Wills Point as the winner of the $5,000 with a ticket received from Fairway Shoe Store who also was a winner with the $500 business prize.”
