Students participate in Sweets for Soldiers campaign
Earnest O. Woods Intermediate School student Presley Mixon is congratulated by Dr. Kimberly Neiman, DDS and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Jones for donating the most candy during the 5th annual Sweets for Soldiers campaign to show appreciation to our men and women in military service.
For the fifth consecutive year, Dr. Kimberly Neiman, DDS of Wills Point and students from the Wills Point ISD combined their efforts to collect candy for the Sweets for Soldiers campaign.
Neiman announced that this year’s total candy collected weighed in at a whopping 177.40 lbs. Neiman noted, “That’s like a whole person in candy!” Additionally, letters from Wills Point school kids from every campus were collected in appreciation of the troops.
Winning the overall class challenge this year, which included a prize of Sonic gift cards presented by Dr. Neiman, were students in Chasity Mixon’s 3rd grade class at Earnest O. Woods Intermediate School.
The class collected a district best 41.4 lbs. of candy, and Presley Mixon was given a $50 Visa gift card for being the biggest individual giver. For winning the class challenge, Chasity Mixon received a free teeth whitening.
Prizes were presented to Mixon’s class Dec. 2 with Mayor Pro Tem Mike Jones taking time out to recognize the students.
