Hall appointed to Border Security Joint Interim Committee

Sen. Bob Hall has been named to the Joint Interim Committee to Study Border Security by Lt. Governor Dan Patrick.

The committee, created by House Bill 11 during the recent 84th Legislative Session, will monitor the Department of Public Safety border surge, and the newly budgeted $800 million appropriated to further secure the Texas-Mexico border.

Hall was one of five senators named to this committee.

"This last session, we provided a historic level of funding and resources to our border security efforts," Patrick. "These five senators have the insight needed to support the needs of our law enforcement officials along the border.”

The Joint Interim Committee to Study Border Security will assist with the management and implementation of resources that will help to secure our Texas-Mexico border.  After the federal government's failure to properly secure the border, Texas has taken a large step to stop criminal activity from crossing into our state.

"I am honored to serve on this vital committee managing the spending and implementation of securing our Texas border," Hall said.  "One of the greatest threats to public safety, today, is an insecure Texas-Mexico border where criminal aliens can enter and exit our State without authorization only to repeatedly commit crimes against Texas citizens."

"I hope to be able to report that our legislation from the 84th session was implemented efficiently, the money was spent wisely, and the people of Texas are safer and more secure." said Hall.

While there is not yet an announced timeline, the committee's five senate members, and five house members will compile their findings into a report due to the full legislature prior to the 85th Legislative Session, which convenes in January, 2017.

Hall represents District 2, which encompasses part of Delta, Fannin, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties and parts of Dallas County.
