Tigers even record with win out Yellowjackets, 33-30

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Wills Point Tigers accomplished their ultimate goal on Friday night with a 33-30 home win over the Ferris Yellowjackets to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Offensively, the story for the Tigers was running back Marques Crouch. The senior followed up a season opening three touchdown performance in a loss to Forney with an even better one against the Yellowjackets. All told, Crouch logged 39 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and added three catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the receiving game.
Play between the two teams opened with the Yellowjackets on offense. Ferrris picked up a first down before Wills Point caused and recovered a fumble by freshman quarterback Dylan Wright.
The Tigers needed just four plays to get on the scoreboard following the turnover, driving 39 yards for a touchdown. A big completion from Caden Bennett to Tanner Smith accounted for 30 of those yards, and Crouch powered through the Ferris defense with a 5-yard run for a 7-0 lead.
Neither team managed to generate any momentum over the next several series until Wills Point took possession of another Ferris fumble near the end of the first and into the second quarter.
The Tigers got the ball at the Yellowjacket 33-yard line, and pushed all the way down to the 5-yard line. After a loss on first down, a short gain on second, and an incomplete pass on third down, the Tigers added to their advantage courtesy of a Vincent Tobias field goal. With 11:50 to play in the half, the Tigers held a 10-0 lead.
Ferris struggled once again offensively on their ensuing possession, but excellent punting put the Tigers back at their own two-yard line. Ferris managed to record a safety to break through on the scoreboard, cutting the lead to 10-2.
Due to the sack, Wills Point was also forced to kick the ball back to Ferris. The Yellowjackets capitalized quickly on the opportunity, returning the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. With the PAT, Ferris trailed 10-9 with 9:44 left in the half.
