Trustees appoint Hancock as interim superintendent
The Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees hit their stated goal last week, finding an interim superintendent to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Superintendent Suzanne Blasingame at the July 16 meeting.
Randy Hancock, formerly a superintendent with the Maypearl, Howe and, most recently, Royse City ISDs, was selected after a series of interviews with potential candidates conducted on Aug. 7.
The Wills Point ISD’s course of action was outlined for the public several days prior at a special called meeting on Aug. 3.
At that time, Board President C.W. Wilson advised that, “TASB (The Texas Association of School Boards) has a database of superintendents that are available and they have already checked those superintendents’ references. They know what their strong points are and they will try to match us up with whoever fits our situation, not only in the interim but also in the superintendent search…We’re trying to get this done so we can have an interim in place when school starts.”
Candidates were presented to and interviewed by trustees on Aug. 7, with trustees offering the interim position to Hancock.
Hancock’s career in education runs nearly 35 years. He retired from Royse City in June 2012. In 2011, Hancock was selected by a Region 10 Screening Committee as the Regional Superintendent of the Year.
Nominees for the honor are nominated by their respective school boards, and are selected based on having demonstrated strong leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality, building effective employee relations and maintaining strong student performance. Hancock’s hiring will serve as a bridge from Suzanne Blasingame to the next person that will fill the full-time superintendent position moving forward.
