Potential voters will have one final chance to cast their ballots after early voting wrapped on May 5. Items up for a vote include three seats on the Wills Point City Council, three seats on the Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees, and two propositions.
The first of two propositions would pave the way for the construction of a three-story Best Western Plus Hotel in Wills Point and the second would establish an Emergency Services District that encompasses the city and outlying areas.
Wills Point City Council
In the Wills Point City Council election, local voters will elect three council seats, including seats currently held by Kyle Anderson and Oscar Rogers and the expiring seat of former council member Sherry Bailey Walker.
Candidates in this year’s race include incumbents Kyle Anderson and Oscar Rogers, as well as newcomers Lance LyBrand and John Foster.
Through the first two days of early voting, election officials noted that 54 ballots had been cast. That number grew to a modest 136 for the entirety of early voting.
On Election Day, May 9, city voters can cast their ballot at the Wills Point Community Center located at 307 N. Fourth St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees
Three seats, each held by long tenured members of the board of trustees, are up for re-election on the May ballot this year. Place 1, currently held by Ray Thomason, Place 2, currently held by board president C.W. Wilson, and place 3, held by Darlene Weesner, are all currently before voters.
Thomason, elected back in 2006, will be challenged for his position by Jerry Don Huff. Thomason went unchallenged during his most recent campaign back in 2012.
C.W. Wilson will be challenged for his seat this year by newcomer Kyle Pearson.
Weesner, the longest tenured current board member, opted not to run for re-election, paving the way for either newcomer Jeff Etheridge or newcomer Donald Smith to serve on place 3 of the board.
Early voting by personal appearance in the Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees election will run from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. through May 5 at the Wills Point ISD Administration office located at 338 W. N. Commerce.
